September 2019
Roof leaks are never fun. Especially when they are happening throughout the entire building on an older roof that is no longer under warranty. The Wilson School District found themselves in just such a situation. The good news though? They selected a roofing company that already successfully completed several projects at their high school and elementary schools.
We began work on the districts lower house and pool building in June so as to complete the majority of the project when there would be less students and staff onsite. This is a large ballasted roof (107,198 SF), that was completely torn off down to the deck to install a 90 mil Johns Manville adhered EPDM roof system. During this process we were able to install additional insulation, bringing the roof up to 2019 codes. We replaced multiple skylights over the pool area and took the extra step to add safety screens to each one as well.
Even though we completed the project during the summer break, activities were still taking place at the school. We had to close some walk areas and mark alternative routes to keep students and staff out of any active work zones. This required careful coordination with the school district to ensure the safety of those still on campus.
In the end we have another successful project with the school district and look forward to working with them in the future.
With the complete roof replacement and 30-year warranty the only water in this building will be in the pool!
