What Goes into a Proposal?

Roofing employee holding plans

Oftentimes when people seek a contractor for a roofing project, there is a point in the process where there is a waiting period between your initial contact and when a proposal is put in your hands. We wanted to take a moment to explain what happens in that waiting period, giving you a peek into what that period looks like in our roofing world.

Usually, one of the first things we require before putting together a roofing solution is a site visit. The site visit ensures that we know exactly what is going on with the existing roof, whether it’s a coating or a complete re-roof project. Other items we look for are outside factors, such as the logistics we’d need to navigate to complete your project. For example, knowing where can we safely store the roofing material or how easy it is to get material on or off the roof is vital to a project’s success. Once we get an accurate idea of the entire environment, we can start to put together the solution to best complete your specific project.  Finding the right solution for you is dependent on your communication and transparency in what you are trying to accomplish.

Creating the right solution for your roof follows a general process:

Step One: Overview And Assessment

The first step involves a general overview and assessment of the project. During this step we ask ourselves questions such as:

  • Do we have project logistics mapped out?
  • Are there any special safety or legal protocols that we need to follow?
  • What are the building permits or codes required for that specific geographic location?

Step Two: Building A Solution

The second step is solution time. Determining the solution for your project is a collaborative process including you and our qualified team. Your input and our expertise come together to determine the right outcome. We prioritize open and honest conversations about your budget and expectations before building the solution that best fits your needs.

Step Three: Final Calculations

This is where we put calculations to a defined scope of work using time and material equations. These calculations will be verified with manufacturers’ and installers’ specifications to make sure every detail is exactly right. During this stage, we will also create professional roof drawings for your project.

Step Four: Proposal

The waiting period is over! We put everything together in a clear proposal to share with you.

Step Five: Review

Ideally, we would get the opportunity to sit down with you and review the details of your proposal. This gives you a chance to ask questions or ask for clarification regarding your roofing solution.

Every project is different with its own unique set of challenges and opportunities to achieve your roofing goals. That is why it is so important that you are aware of what your contractors should be evaluating. True professionals know this all too well because they genuinely want the best for you. Time is always of the essence, but when it comes to your roof, every detail needs to be considered. That is what exceptional people do and how you get exceptional results. With your firms Roofing help and additional home inspections regarding Stucco Moisture tests we have uncovered a $40K + problem we would have inherited. Now it’s the sellers problem.
